Originally from India, ginger is a perennial plant with a tuberculous root. It is cultivated in particular for its irregular and rough rhizome. Appreciating cool, shady land, this plant is found today in India and Sri Lanka, also Jamaica, the West Indies, Central America and Brazil. Its root is harvested after flowering. It is then washed and dried.
The health benefits of ginger
The virtues of ginger are numerous. In addition to its reputation as a powerful aphrodisiac, Zingiber officinale is a plant that would improve digestion. Research has shown that it may help maintain gut flora and better digest fat (1). It is also used as a tonic. Thanks to its antiemetic action, ginger would also reduce nausea and vomiting. If you have motion sickness or are pregnant, it may help (2). Ginger would also have the ability to lower fever (3), in addition to an anti-bacterial action.

How to use ginger?
Apart from our kitchens where ginger is a spice that perfumes many dishes, the root can be consumed as a decoction, for example, infused for at least 5 minutes, after a meal in order to facilitate digestion. For the same effects, ginger can also be consumed reduced to powder, mixed with honey or jam.
Its external use is less well known. In the form of essential oil, it can be prescribed against rheumatism. Its anti-inflammatory power makes it possible to significantly reduce the intensity of symptoms.
